Beads Making Projects in a Rut??

In a previous post I had written about how your beads making projects could be used to give your clothing a creative kick.  I was going through some newsletters that I subscribe to and I came across an article written by Danielle Fox for Beading Daily where she writes about using fashion to help inspire new jewelry designs.

In the article titled "Inspired by Attire" she makes an excellent point about finding your inspiration for new designs from articles of clothing.  The reasoning behind it she explains is because...

Clothes give you parameters to work within--like color, style, neckline, motifs. All these details help narrow down design possibilities, a must for an indecisive person like me!

What a great point! I've found myself in a position many times where I am having an artistic block and I just cannot think of the next design or theme of jewelry to beading design.

Next time you are completely at loss for your next beading or jewelry project, just look in your closet, grab a purse or do some wandering through your local fashion boutique!!

Anyone have any suggestions for a beginner with making jewelry with beads?

I am just purchased a kit for lampwork and I am interested in other beading products and jewelry making tips? Any tips would be appreciated.
Books & Magazines! I have been making jewelry with hemp and beads for years and just recently started branching out to work with wire and metals. I didn't even know what eyepins were used for until I grabbed a book or two. The "for dummies" series has some really great beading/jewelry making books with simple instructions and projects that give a lot of inspiration for more difficult projects. There's a great website with supplies, I think its called fire mountain gems & beads, they also have project ideas and instructions. Look in fashion magazines and see what's shown - if you take a close look at some of the pieces you can figure out how they're made. feel free to e-mail if you have more questions about it, I'll try to help the best I can!

Beads making, how do they make beads?

I'm interested in beads making? Like the beads the North American Indians use to sew, worth a mint now adays. Also African beads necklaces from Morroco made of black coral and blue jade.
How did they get red and white beads?

How they are made depends on the materials they were made from. Wood and stone/coral beads are usually hand carved (the good ones at least), but are heading towards manufacturing. Stone beads are gorgeous; some are precision cut and tumbled,then a hole is drilled into them. Glass beads are blown, just like a vase or a glass bowl.

Native Americans got quite a few from trading, some made from horn/hoof/wood. I'm guessing that if you googled ethnic jewelry/beads making, you'd get quite a few hits.
